Ten Easy Ways to Save Money on Energy Bills
Maximize comfort in your home.
We’ve put together a list of easy things to implement in your home to maximize comfort and stop wasting money on high energy bills. By implementing at least a few of these strategies, your ac system will not need to run as long or as hard and can help keep the comfort level in your home more consistent.
1. Maintenance
Schedule a performance checkup for your Air conditioning system. We can ensure your system is in good working order and help save money on utilities by making sure the coils and blower are clean and bringing attention to any failing parts that may be using more energy than normal. Most parts of the system are used in both heating and cooling which means significant wear and tear on those parts.
2. Filters
Change your air filters every month to improve air conditioner efficiency. Dirty filters restrict airflow and cause the system to run longer and work harder to deliver cool air to your home. Click here for Air Filter Home Delivery to have filters delivered directly to your door.
3. New thermostat
Use a programmable thermostat. You can maximize your utility savings by setting a programming schedule to lower the temperature during your off-peak hours and raise the temperature during your on-peak hours thereby using your ac more when utility rates are lower. Wifi thermostats are great for those times when you need to change your thermostat setting when you are away from home.
4. Eliminate air leaks
Seal around doors and windows. Keep energy usage at a minimum by preventing the conditioned air from escaping and keeping the hot non-conditioned air out. Don’t forget about sealing around outlets, light switches, supply registers, and return ducts also. Air loss through ducts accounts for almost 30 percent of a cooling system’s energy consumption.
5. Unrestricted air movement
Move furniture so it is not blocking air vents and return registers.
6. Fireplace damper
Close fireplace dampers during summer months.
7. Air movement (fans)
Utilize ceiling fans when you are at home. Ceiling fans allow you to raise your thermostat setting up to 4 degrees to enjoy the same level of comfort in your home.
8. Keep your kitchen cool
Cook outside on warm days or minimize turning on your oven to decrease the heat generated inside your home.
9. Reduce incoming sunlight
Consider installing window treatments such as blinds, curtains, or shades. By keeping heat out of your home, you can help ensure your ac system does not have to work so hard during the hot summer months.
10. Reduce humidity
Utilize bathroom and laundry exhaust fans to help suck the heat and humidity out of your home.
